Haulbag: a large (about 4 foot long) bag for hauling gear up a cliff. The bag is made of tough material, in this case, hypalon, which is the material commercial river rafts are made of. Almost impossible to cut. The gear is stowed through an opening in the top. There are shoulder straps and a waistbelt for carrying to the bottom of the cliff. These things are usually very heavy, often over 150 lbs. Nicknamed "the pig", and you will understand why if you ever have to haul one of these over rough terrain or up a cliff. Straps detach for hauling, or they would catch on everything. The bag has straps that do not detach at top and bottom. The top ones are for attaching to the haul line, the bottom ones so you can stack a second one below the first.

Here is Ken carrying our haulbag at the end of the climb. Note the expression on his face. I was too tired to carry it down from the top of El Cap.
