Fly Tying Group
Sample Handouts
Handouts are always valued by the observers, and the participants in the Workshop on Demonstration Tying, who were all veteran tiers, agreed that handouts should be part of future Conclaves.
Handouts can have many different formats. Here is a sample of what some tiers have done. Consider these as mere samples to serve as a springboard for your imagination, and design your handout so that it suits your style. It does not have to be great literature or great illustration. The only question is: will this handout help the observer, after watching you, be able to tie this fly when they get home? Have fun creating your handout!
Complete, detailed handout (Bob Jacklin)
Blank, outline handout (Bruce Staples)
More complete, very detailed handout (Dick Nelson)
Simple one-page handout with photograph (Ed Morphis)
Handout concentrating on a technique, not a pattern (Al and Gretchen Beatty)
Detailed, five-page handout with line drawings (David Nelson)
