ASSH Fly Fishing Trip Sept 26

Jeff Greenberg organized a float trip in conjunction with the 2007 ASSH in Seattle. Fred Fakharzadeh, Mark Buchman, and David Nelson joined him floating the Yakima River. It was a great trip. The guides, Ryan and Dylan, picked us up at 6:00 am and we drove two hours east, to the head of the Yakima Canyon. The river was beautiful, flowing at 1150 cfs. The surrounding countryside was sagebrush desert, quite a contrast to the temperate rainforest of the Olympic Penninsula.

Jeff, Fred, Mark and David poised at the put-in on the Yakima River. Jeff and Fred went with Ryan,
Mark and David with Dylan.

Mark landed the first fish in our boat, with Dylan holding it..

David landed a 14 inch rainbow, which Dylan deftly netted.
All were netted with a rubber net, held out of the water only long enough to be photographed,
held in the net until they were recovered, and then released

There were small mayflies and caddisflies coming off in the morning and we were catching them on dries like this one.

The two boats tried to stay somewhat in tandem, and we could see Jeff and Fred landing and losing fish.

Our guides whipped out tables, chairs, smoked salmon, and started grilling chicken shish-ka-bobs.

Dylan grilling up our lunch.

Mark kept pulling them in during the afternoon, now on larger October caddis patterns with a nymph dropper.
