H. Christian Zweng, MD, known to all of his friends worldwide as Chris, was a pioneer in laser photocoagulation in ophthalmology. His work was so groundbreaking that it was featured in the journal Nature in 1963, entitled Retinal Photocoagulation by Lasers. He went on to write the fundamental textbook for the discipline, Argon Laser Photocoagulation, with his collegue Hunter Little.

A history of his contributions, written by his granddaughter, Carolyn Zweng Bruckman, is here.

The Zweng Memorial Retinal Research Center is affiliated with the Stanford Vitreoretinal Center and sponsors an annual Zweng Memorial lecture. The 1993 lecture is online. It was incorporated in 1975 but has since ceased to function.
