Infected Incision

This is an infected incision (not from my practice)
The patient is a 23 year old carpenter who got a wood splinter in his hand, he tried to get it out himself, and then went to an urgent care center. The doctor there tried to remove the splinter, could not find it, and referred the patient to me. The patient did not call for an appointment for about three days. He only called because his incision was very red, swollen, warm, and very very painful.
If you look at the hand, you can see that there is a generalized red area throughout the thumb region. There seems to be pus under the incision (there was). This is the classic presentation of an infection. HOWEVER, PLEASE DON'T WAIT THIS LONG TO CALL ME! The office number is 415-925-0501, my pager is 721-6718.
