White Fairy Lantern

(Also, White Globe Lilly)
Calochortus albus

(First posted June 1, 2006 Last updated September 24, 2009)

These at left were photographed May 28, 2006, at the very beginning of the road to Buckeye.
The ones at right were photographed Oct 27, 2005.

These were photographed by Eric Larson, 2005, above the cabin, near the treehouse.

The White Globe Lilly, or White Fairy Lantern, is in the genus Calochortus, the same genus as the Mariposa Lilly.

This was photographed May 30, 2009, just below a rock outcropping, just down from the parking lot.
They seem to like areas below rocks, as I have found them below Rocky Point and below Prune Ridge Hook.

They are native to California and are endemic. There are three other Fairy Lanterns, the Mt. Diabo Fairly Lantern (below, left) and the Cedars Fairy Lantern, which are yellow, and the Purple Fairy Lantern, which is reddish purple.
