Halloween Hair

By Maggie Nelson

I dyed my hair for Halloween,

My color is now red:

All the roots and in between,

The dye got on my head

I begged my mom to use shampoo

And wash out all the dye,

But when I looked into the glass,

My reflection made me cry.

Not only was my hair still red,

But it's also in my ear!

The red is on my clothes and towel!

It's permanent, I fear!

My Homework

I have to write a poem.
The thought of it is dread.
Do I want to write a poem?
No, I'd rather I was dead.

I have to write a poem
as part of my homework.
My teacher made me do it.
I think he is a jerk.                 (not really, Mr. Nelson)

I have to write a poem.
I don't think I can do it.
Oh my! I wrote a poem!
My homework! I am through it!
