Patient Statements
Gamekeeper's Thumb

This page has been written by patients of mine who had surgery and who wanted to share their experience of surgery with other patients who are thinking of having a similar surgery.

The statements are unedited unless indicated. No two patients will have identical experiences, so expect some variation. However, I thought that you would like not only MY perspective on what you might experience (I have told you this during your visit), but also THEIR perspective on what they actually experienced. If you have any questions, please let me know. - Dr. Nelson

Avid Mountain Biker had a Gamekeeper's Thumb from a Bike Accident

I had surgery done by Dr. Nelson for a dislocated thumb ("gamekeeper's thumb"). I'm writing this primarily to ease the anxiety of anyone who may be worried about the operation or its aftermath. The whole experience was entirely comfortable. I was put under and had a nice nap, and when I woke up it was all done; I went home, and, following Dr. Nelson's regimen, had no post-operative pain or discomfort. I had no need to take Vicodin. Full recovery takes a while, but I was not majorly handicapped. All in all, actually a pleasant experience.
